The 2013 Wujiang Climbing World Cup press conference will be held in Shanghai. It has been revealed that as the highest-level event in the climbing calendar, the Climbing World Cup will take place from October 19 to 20 at the Sanbaidang Sports Park in the Fenhu High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, Jiangsu. This follows the 2012 International Climbing Masters event, and is another world-class climbing competition to be hosted in Fenhu. Nearly 100 athletes from 15 countries and regions will compete in four events: men's and women's speed climbing and difficulty climbing.

The Climbing World Cup stage races are among the highest-tier events organized by the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC), held in various locations around the world in stages. To build a brand for climbing sports culture, the Fenhu High-Tech Zone built the largest artificial climbing wall in China last year, which has been designated by the Chinese Mountaineering Association as the “National Youth Climbing Training Base.” It is used to host various domestic and international competitions to promote and popularize the sport of climbing. For this event, the world’s top eight speed and difficulty climbers will come together in Fenhu to compete. Their results will contribute to their annual rankings, with the highest scorer at the end of the season being crowned the Climbing World Cup Champion.

“Hosting a world-class climbing competition in Fenhu for the first time is not only a concrete effort by Fenhu to vigorously develop cultural and sports initiatives and promote the spirit of climbing, but also a rare opportunity for Fenhu to showcase its urban charm and dynamic development to the world,” said a representative from the Fenhu High-Tech Zone.
