Director of Messe Friedrichshafen GmbH
Project Manager of EUROBIKE
Mr. Leisinger
Ladies and gentlemen:
Welcome to today’s press conference for the Asia Bike Show. I am Steve Leisinger, Project Manager of EUROBIKE. EUROBIKE is currently the world’s largest bicycle exhibition, held annually in late August or early September in Friedrichshafen, Germany.
As a major shareholder of Beijing Demans, we have been a solid partner and supporter of the Asia Bike Show since its inception.
EUROBIKE was founded in 1991, initially focusing on the then emerging mountain bike market that was gaining popularity in the United States. The first EUROBIKE had only 200 exhibitors, 14,500 professional visitors, and about 200 journalists. However, the unique atmosphere created by the beautiful environment of Friedrichshafen, along with the relaxed yet fruitful business outcomes, made the show an instant success.
Over the past decade, as mountain biking in Europe has grown rapidly, so has EUROBIKE. Since 2002, the show has moved to its current new venue, and with continuous expansion and unique supporting events, it has become an essential annual event for professionals in the European cycling industry.
EUROBIKE is strategically timed—late August marks the end of the peak cycling season while also being the period for new product launches. As a result, more and more brands participate. It has become the largest bicycle exhibition in Europe, featuring high-end, luxury sports bikes, racing bikes, urban bikes, and more.
Over the past five years, a new trend has emerged in the European bicycle market—the rise of electric-assist sport bikes. EUROBIKE is leading this trend, to the extent that some now call it a global exhibition.
The 22nd edition of EUROBIKE, which concluded in early September, achieved outstanding results: 1,280 exhibitors from 54 countries and regions, 45,200 professional visitors from 11 countries, and 1,883 media representatives from 45 countries. A record-high 300 products were launched globally for the first time. The attendance of German Chancellor Angela Merkel to open the show was particularly memorable, highlighting the government’s emphasis on cycling, environmental protection, and sustainable development.
EUROBIKE’s global leadership demonstrates the increasing importance of internationalization to our clients and exhibitors. Years ago, we successfully introduced the successful model of OUTDOOR by Messe Friedrichshafen to China by launching the Asia Outdoor Show. Later, we decided to create the Asia Bike Show to better serve our EUROBIKE clients, assist them in entering the Asian market, and also to evaluate Far Eastern brands interested in entering the European market and participating in EUROBIKE. Therefore, three years ago, together with our Chinese partners, we launched the Asia Bike Show. We leveraged over 20 years of EUROBIKE’s operational experience and global bicycle resources to strongly support the marketing and exhibitor recruitment of the Asia Show. Nanjing International Exhibition Co., Ltd. (NFIA), as the executive body of the Asia Show, has extensive experience, and our long-term partner Mr. Jaeger serves as a bridge between Friedrichshafen and Nanjing.
Like EUROBIKE at its inception, the Asia Show adheres to one principle: focusing on high-end and premium sport bicycles. This year, the Asia Show welcomed nearly 400 exhibitors and was held independently for the first time. We are proud and pleased with the accurate positioning of the show. The Asia Bike Show is ready to take off.
In the global economy, the Asian market is continuously growing, with huge potential in leisure and sports consumption. At the same time, traffic pressures in Far Eastern countries and the future pursuit of sustainability will greatly drive the bicycle industry. The Asia Bike Show is both a window showcasing this trend and a platform for presenting the world’s latest products to this thriving market.
On this occasion, I would like to congratulate all staff involved in the exhibition for your outstanding achievements. I also sincerely wish all exhibitors, media, and dealers a successful show and hope you enjoy your time in Nanjing.
Thank you
