Starting at 7:55 am on October 20, traffic restrictions will be imposed on multiple road sections during specified time periods, with restoration times to be determined by traffic authorities based on race conditions; public buses and trolleybuses will remain operational
Beijing News (Reporter Guo Chao) — This Sunday, the 2013 Beijing Hyundai Beijing Marathon will be held, with the starting point set inside Tiananmen Square. From 7:55 am that day until the race concludes, temporary traffic control measures will be enforced on several road sections including the east side of Tiananmen Square, West Chang’an Avenue, and the Second Ring Road (West).
On October 20, 30,000 athletes from 40 countries and regions will participate in the full marathon, half marathon, and mini marathon events. All races will start inside Tiananmen Square, with the full marathon finishing at the Landscape Avenue in Olympic Park; the half marathon ending 300 meters east of the west entrance of Zhichun Road; and the mini marathon concluding outside the west gate of the People’s Bank of China on Financial Street.
To ensure the smooth progress of the event and maintain road safety and traffic flow during the race, starting at 7:55 am on the day of the race until its conclusion, all vehicles except public buses, trolleybuses, and those holding special credentials for the 2013 Beijing Hyundai Beijing Marathon will be subject to timed, segmented road closures. Affected road sections include the east side of Tiananmen Square, the Second Ring Road (West), Chegongzhuang West Road, Haidian South Road, Xueyuan Road, among others. The timing for restoring public access to traffic-controlled sections will be decided by traffic authorities based on race conditions.
Traffic authorities remind drivers and pedestrians approaching intersections along the race route to follow the directions of traffic police and staff. Public buses and trolleybuses traveling along the race route may use the far-right traffic lane without affecting athletes, where feasible. Units and residents along the race route are advised to plan alternative routes in advance to avoid disruptions.
Traffic control sections and detour routes
Starting at 8:50 am, the vehicle lanes (both motorized and non-motorized) on the south auxiliary road of North Fourth Ring Road from Huoqiyuan Bridge, and the west auxiliary road of Wanquanhe Road to Daoxiangyuan Bridge (excluding) will be closed to traffic. Detours are available via the main carriageways of North Fourth Ring Road and Wanquanhe Road.
Starting at 8:55 am, the vehicle lanes on Haidian South Road (westbound), Zhichun Road (westbound) from Daoxiangyuan Bridge to Xuezhi Bridge (excluding) will be closed to traffic. Detours can be made via North Fourth Ring Road, Yuanda Road, and North Third Ring Road.
Starting at 9:10 am, the vehicle lanes on Xueyuan Road (southbound), Xueqing Road (southbound) from Xuezhi Bridge to the east entrance of Lindong North Road (excluding) will be closed to traffic. Detours are possible via Wanquanhe Road and the Beijing–Tibet Expressway.
Starting at 9:22 am, the vehicle lanes on Shibanfang South Road (westbound), Kehui Road (westbound) from the east entrance of Lindong North Road to the Lincai Intersection (excluding) will be closed to traffic. Detours can be taken via North Fifth Ring Road and North Fourth Ring Road.
Starting at 9:30 am, the vehicle lanes on Lincai Road (northbound) from the Lincai Intersection to the Lincai Bridge (excluding); and from Lincai Bridge via the south auxiliary road of North Fifth Ring Road, Aolin West Road (northbound), Aoyuncun West Road (northbound) to the Datun Road Intersection (excluding) will be closed to traffic. Detours are available via the Beijing–Tibet Expressway, North Fifth Ring Road, Datun Road Tunnel, and Aoyuncun East Road. Non-motorized traffic on the south auxiliary road of North Fifth Ring Road from Lincai Bridge to Aolinxi Bridge will also be prohibited.
Starting at 9:35 am, the vehicle lanes on Datun Road (eastbound, from Aoyuncun East Road to Aoyuncun West Road) will be closed to traffic. Detours can be made via Datun Road Tunnel and Huizhong Road.
Starting at 9:40 am, the area from the south gate of Olympic Forest Park, along the outer loop road of Olympic Forest Park, and Landscape Avenue of Olympic Park to the west side of the Linglong Tower on Landscape Avenue will be closed to traffic.
Starting at 7:55 am, the vehicle lanes on the north section of the east side of Tiananmen Square (from the south entrance (excluding) to the north entrance (excluding)) will be closed to traffic. Detours are available via the west side of the Great Hall of the People and Zhengyi Road.
Starting at 7:58 am, the vehicle lanes on West Chang’an Avenue (eastbound) from the south entrance of Nanchizi (excluding) to Fuxingmen Bridge (excluding) will be closed to traffic. Detours can be made via Qianmen East Street, Qianmen West Street, and Ping’an Avenue.
Starting at 8:10 am, the vehicle lanes on the east auxiliary road of West Second Ring Road from Fuxingmen Bridge, Yuetan North Street (both directions), Sanlihe Road (southbound) to the intersection of Erligou (excluding) will be closed to traffic. Detours are possible via the main carriageway of West Second Ring Road, Lianshi Road, and West Third Ring Road.
Starting at 8:18 am, the vehicle lanes on Chegongzhuang West Road (eastbound), Linglong Road (eastbound) from the intersection of Erligou to Cishousi Bridge (excluding) will be closed to traffic. Detours can be taken via the West Exit of Beijing Zoo.
Starting at 8:35 am, the vehicle lanes on Lanidianchang South Road (southbound), Lanidianchang North Road (southbound) from Cishousi Bridge to Huoqiyuan Bridge (excluding) will be closed to traffic. Detours are available via West Third Ring Road and West Fourth Ring Road.
