According to a report by Nepal's *Kathmandu Post* on the 29th, Nepal has recently discovered 5 new snow-capped mountains with elevations exceeding 8,000 meters, which are currently awaiting confirmation from the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA).
Anil Koirala Sherpa, former president of the Nepal Mountaineering Association, explained that Nepal has recently conducted actual measurements of these 5 peaks and has included the specific data and details in a certification report, which was submitted to the UIAA meeting currently taking place in Switzerland.
According to the directory published by the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation, there are currently 14 confirmed mountains in the world with elevations exceeding 8,000 meters, most of which are part of the Himalayas. Among the 5 newly discovered snow-capped mountains in Nepal, 2 are located in the Nepal–India border region, 2 are in the China–Nepal border region, and 1 is within Nepalese territory.
Sherpa explained that the report from Nepal was discussed at the UIAA meeting, but it was not approved. The Nepalese government will continue to work towards having these 5 peaks officially included in the list of mountains over 8,000 meters in elevation.
