The snow season is just around the corner, and for ski enthusiasts traveling from Beijing to Chongli, highway congestion is a major headache. Based on experience, taking a winter Saturday as an example, those who pass through the North Sixth Ring Road before 6:30 AM generally won’t encounter serious traffic jams. After 7:00 AM, the chances of hitting traffic increase significantly. The likelihood of congestion is even higher during the day, and at night it’s certain there will be traffic. It’s been said that by the end of this year, all large vehicles will be rerouted to the Jingxin Expressway, leaving the G6 exclusively for passenger cars—but as of now, this hasn’t been officially confirmed, so we can’t really count on it. The current situation is as follows: On the outbound direction from Beijing, the most congested section of the G6 is from Changping to the Badaling Scenic Area. Once past the scenic area, the road is mostly clear, so it’s still best to take the G6. In response to special circumstances such as heavy snow closures or severe traffic jams on highways, we have planned an alternative non-toll route. Its advantage is that there’s no toll, but the downside is that road conditions are relatively less favorable. If you notice any inaccuracies, please feel free to share your valuable advice with more experienced travelers—hopefully, this can be helpful to everyone. Also, a few notes: This route is a non-highway one. 1. Speed camera enforcement and penalties along the route are unclear. 2. Road condition information between Kangzhang Road and Da Haituo is incomplete. 3. Road conditions may change in snowy or icy weather—some sections may have ice, so extra caution is needed when driving. 4. There are trucks on the road. 5. Some parts involve mountain roads. 6. Nighttime driving is not recommended.
