Russia: Do 30 squats and ride the metro for free.
According to The Moscow Times, a special vending machine has appeared at a metro station in Moscow, Russia. Anyone who can complete 30 consecutive squats in front of this machine will win a free metro ticket.
It is reported that passengers must perform the squats in a designated area, where the vending machine counts both the number and duration of the squats. Moreover, the movements must be performed correctly, with arms extended forward during each squat. A single metro ticket in Moscow costs 30 rubles (approximately 5.6 RMB), meaning each squat is worth about 1 ruble. The “30 squats for a free metro ticket” campaign will run for one month. According to passengers who have tried it, completing 30 squats is no easy task.
It is understood that this initiative is in support of the Sochi Winter Olympics, which opened on February 7, 2014, and the campaign will last for one month. Zhukov, the head of the Russian Olympic Committee, said: “We want to show that people can not only watch the Olympics on TV, but also actively participate in sports and promote the Olympic spirit.”
