The BeiDou Satellite Navigation System is an independently developed and operated global satellite positioning and communication system created by China. Along with the United States' Global Positioning System (GPS), Russia's GLONASS, and the European Union's Galileo system, it is recognized as one of the world's four major satellite navigation systems. Recently, a mobile phone equipped with a BeiDou satellite positioning system module has been put into use.

Wei Linhui, General Manager of China Spacesat Digital Technology Co., Ltd., introduced: “The two main application areas of the China Spacesat BeiDou mobile phone are network supplementation communication and emergency communication. Network supplementation communication is mainly used in areas without wireless signal coverage, such as at sea, in Tibet, and in Xinjiang—vast regions where signals are scarce. Emergency communication is primarily used when wireless base stations are difficult to access.
Experts say that the BeiDou global positioning and communication system has now been successfully applied in numerous fields, including surveying and mapping, telecommunications, water conservancy, fisheries, transportation, forest fire prevention, disaster reduction and relief, and public safety.
