Last updated 2026-09-24 — Almost at the end of the cycling trip, I’ve already felt the change of seasons. “Riding a bike on the road is an experience where your body goes through hell but your soul enters heaven. Only those who have been through it can appreciate its captivating charm. Every rider on the road is their own hero.” said Li Jian. A 24-year-old young man from Changzhou...
Xinhua News Agency, Xi'an, November 25 (Sports Special Report) — The Education Department of Shaanxi Province recently issued requirements for students’ winter long-distance running under the Sunshine Sports program. Local authorities should organize the activity safely and orderly according to local conditions and climate, and suspend outdoor activities in severe weather such as smog, wind, or rain.

The Education Department of Shaanxi Province requires all levels and types of schools to integrate the winter long-distance running activity into their educational and teaching plans based on actual conditions, scientifically and reasonably arranging students' running schedules. The winter long-distance running activity is intended for students from the fifth and sixth grades of primary school upward, organized by class. The recommended daily running distances are: 800 to 1,000 meters for primary school students, 1,500 meters for junior high school students, and 2,000 meters for senior high school and college students. Physical education teachers should set daily running distances or alternative exercise amounts in stages, based on the physical condition of their students. Students, under the organization of their homeroom teachers, are to complete the predetermined daily exercise goals.

During the winter long-distance running activities, schools should provide care for or temporarily excuse students with special constitutions or those who clearly feel unwell and are not suitable for running. Safety issues related to the activity must be addressed, and outdoor activities should be avoided in areas with heavy traffic or narrow spaces.
