Only 20 days to go until the opening of the 2014 Shenzhen Midi Festival – the Kingship New Year’s Eve spectacular. From December 31 to January 2, in the spring-like beauty of Shenzhen, the Universiade Center will host a true rock ’n’ roll New Year’s Eve celebration. The 2014 Midi Festival’s annual theme is “Reduce the Horn.” This year’s festival will feature five stages: Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Kids’ Midi, with over a hundred Chinese and international bands and artists performing. The 5th Midi Awards ceremony will be held in Shenzhen for the first time, alongside special activities such as graffiti art, rock climbing, outdoor movies, lion and dragon dances, all perfectly integrated with high-quality live music. And of course, the warm home for music fans – the “Midi Camp” – is also getting ready for opening… The 2014 Shenzhen Midi Festival, the grandest New Year’s Eve party in southern China, is about to begin!
Currently, the full lineup and performance schedule for all five stages have been released. On the evening of December 31, 2013, Wang Yong & Allies, who have brought together top musicians from various fields in China’s music scene and were the first to pioneer and practice the concept and form of “crossover,” will close the show on the Tang Stage. After midnight on January 1, 2014, Swiss percussion ensemble Bubble Beatz will kick off the new year with their first performance. The globally iconic American industrial/new metal band STATIC-X, highly anticipated by metal fans, will make a special trip to the Shenzhen Midi Festival, delivering their first major overseas performance in China on the Tang Stage on the evening of January 2.
Formed in 1994 in Los Angeles, California, STATIC-X has released six full-length albums and, along with bands like Korn and Limp Bizkit, was one of the most eye-catching acts during the early 2000s new metal wave. Their musical style can be described as industrial metal enhanced with powerful electronic elements, featuring sharp rhythms and a futuristic feel, having repeatedly charted in the top 20 of the Billboard 200. During the import CD era, STATIC-X was already well-known and beloved by Chinese fans. This time, their China performance will also mark the global premiere of the 15th-anniversary celebration of their classic 1999 album *Wisconsin Death Trip*, which sold over a million copies. The band will perform the entire classic album live on the Shenzhen Midi stage. For rock fans across the country, this is a New Year’s gift from the Shenzhen Midi Festival!
Tickets for the 2014 Shenzhen Midi Festival are now officially on sale, and specially customized New Year gifts will be available in limited quantities with the festival package tickets.
