According to reports, the group consisted of 18 tourists and 2 staff members. Yesterday (15th) afternoon, the vehicle became stuck on a mountain top after the road iced over while traveling near Jiaoshidong in Dali City. They have now been stranded for 20 hours.
"The 21 people on board (including a local Yunnan driver) have been enduring hunger since yesterday. Coupled with insufficient clothing for warmth, four elderly individuals are in urgent need of rescue," Hai Yumei, the team leader on site, told reporters via phone. After using a mobile phone GPS to locate their position, it was determined that the stranded vehicle is located at the summit of a mountain called Laomupo in the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture. Due to icy roads, vehicles have accumulated on the mountain switchback road and cannot pass through.
"Since the tourist vehicles here in Yunnan do not have heating equipment, the temperature inside the car last night dropped to below zero," said Hai Yumei. After the incident occurred, she sought help from transportation authorities, the 120 emergency center, and the 110 police hotline, but rescue efforts were halted as rescue vehicles could not reach the mountain.
"We have contacted the travel agency in Yunnan to request assistance," He Bin, head of the marketing department at Qinghai Yiyu International Travel Agency, told reporters. Since vehicles cannot go up the mountain, they will send some food and clothing as soon as possible.
It is understood that after the incident, the Qinghai Provincial Tourism Bureau also urgently contacted the Yunnan Provincial Tourism Bureau and the Dali Regional Tourism Bureau to request support.
"It's still snowing now, and the heavy snow has blocked the mountain. The government has organized local residents to trek up the mountain to deliver food and clothing to those stranded at the top," Zhang Fuhua, head of the Quality Supervision Division at the Qinghai Provincial Tourism Bureau, told reporters.
