On the morning of December 14, despite the overcast sky and ongoing rain, the "Eco Energy Walk — Red Bull Urban Hiking Event," organized by the Wuzhou Environmental Protection Bureau, proceeded as scheduled at Yujiang Ligang Square. Nearly 300 citizens participated in the 10-kilometer hike, using their actions to advocate for a "low-carbon, environmentally friendly, and healthy" lifestyle.

  Experiencing urban culture through hiking

"The hiking route was carefully designed to ensure the safety of participants while allowing them to experience Wuzhou’s unique urban culture," explained Shao Lizhong, head of the Legal Propaganda Department of the city's Environmental Protection Bureau. The 10-kilometer route started at Yujiang Ligang Square, passed through the Historical and Cultural Corridor and the Dragon Mother Temple, reached Baiyun Mountain, and finally returned to Yuncui Valley via the Sien Temple on Baiyun Mountain, completing the hike.

The special feature of this hiking event was that every registered participant received a stamp card. Upon reaching certain checkpoints, they could get their cards stamped. After collecting three stamps, participants were rewarded with a souvenir and a certificate.

The reporter learned that along the 10-kilometer route, the organizers set up several rest stations and emergency rescue teams, allowing hikers to take breaks and recharge before continuing.

  Promoting environmental awareness through hiking

In recent times, Wuzhou has experienced frequent light haze, and road dust has gradually worsened. Shao Lizhong explained that vehicle exhaust emissions are also one of the key factors contributing to the decline in air quality. "Through this hiking activity, we aim to encourage the public to adopt low-carbon commuting habits and better promote green transportation."

That morning, the continuous heavy rain made the event staff worried. "The number of registrants far exceeded expectations, reaching 600 people. But with the cold weather and rain, many might not show up." However, to everyone’s surprise, around 9 a.m., groups of citizens began arriving one after another. Soon, nearly 300 citizens had gathered at Yujiang Ligang Square. Among them were fully engaged families, well-equipped "solo adventurers," and elderly individuals with silver hair.

As the starting signal was given, five hiking groups set off one after another under the guidance of their team leaders. Citizens walked with colorful umbrellas or lightweight raincoats, but their spirits remained high. Among the group, 7-year-old Yang Hongyu danced with excitement. Her mother, Pan Ling, admitted that both she and her child are usually busy with work and studies. "Participating in today’s activity not only strengthened our parent-child bond but also let our child feel the power of the group." "I’m so happy, I’m not scared at all!" Although she didn’t quite grasp the concept of a 10-kilometer hike, Yang Hongyu confidently exclaimed.
