On a weekend in early winter, Mr. Liu, a resident of Xiamen, Fujian Province, visited a public bicycle service point in Haicang District with his family. They picked up bikes and rode under the lush green trees, feeling refreshed and joyful. It is reported that as the first demonstration project of “Beautiful Xiamen · Jointly Created,” the Haicang public bicycle system has received widespread praise from local residents and tourists alike since its launch and operation in August this year.
The public bicycle system in the district is being built in four phases, with the first and second phases already completed and in use. It aims to allow citizens, tourists, and cycling enthusiasts to ride and explore while experiencing the charm of a “slow” lifestyle, and to witness the tremendous changes brought by reform and opening-up through this green, environmentally friendly, and low-carbon mode of transportation. Since its launch, the total number of riders has reached nearly 50,000.
