Ice bowling, ice tug-of-war, ice sled relay races, reservoir hiking loops, ice bull-pulling, and ice spinning tops… The Second Ice Sports Games, to be held on December 28th in Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, will attract more than 200 outdoor sports enthusiasts. They will gather at East Datan Plateau to enjoy the fun and thrill of ice sports.
Since winter began, Qinghai Province has leveraged its highland ice and snow advantages to launch a series of outdoor ice sports. Recently, at the kickoff event of the Second China Qinghai Forests, Snowfields, and Happy Ice and Snow Season Tourism Activity in Yaizi Gully Scenic Area, Datong Hui and Tu Autonomous County, activities such as alpine skiing, snowmobiling, snow tubing, and snow sculpture displays attracted numerous ice and snow enthusiasts.
Early in 2014, Qinghai will host the 2014 New Year Ice and Snow Motorcycle Extreme Challenge at Hala Lake, the second-largest saltwater lake on the plateau. Qinghai Lake Scenic Area will also hold a 2014 New Year Ice Trekking Activity and an Ice Exploration Activity.
“The launch of a series of winter ice sports aims to make use of the plateau’s unique ice and snow resources, allowing outdoor sports enthusiasts to experience the charm of highland ice and snow,” said Yang Pei, Deputy Director of the Qinghai Provincial Sports Bureau.
