Without a bridal procession or festive firecrackers, on December 28, a couple staged a simple, unique, and creative low-carbon wedding.
The groom, Xiao Yu, 29, lives in Ludong District. The bride, Xiao Bing, 26, lives in Lubei District. The two held an unadorned yet meaningful wedding that day, with the entire process from the bridal procession taking place entirely at the hotel, and no wedding motorcade. They said that not using a motorcade for the bridal procession was not only environmentally friendly and economical, but also avoided the stress of traffic jams during the procession.
On the evening of the 27th, the couple stayed in separate rooms at the hotel. At 8:55 a.m. on the 28th, the groom, Xiao Yu, dressed in formal attire and holding a bouquet of flowers, was accompanied by two groomsmen to welcome his beautiful bride. The entire bridal procession took less than five minutes. From the procession to entering the bridal chamber and then attending the wedding banquet, the couple walked the whole way. “I fully support this kind of low-carbon and environmentally friendly wedding,” said groomsman Xiao Zheng.
Wedding host Xiao He said that this was the first time he had encountered such a wedding. In the weddings he had presided over previously, many couples opted for luxurious bridal processions to emphasize the grandeur of the event, believing that the more impressive and extravagant the procession, the more face they would gain.
Xiao Yu and Xiao Bing’s family and friends also expressed that their approach was very creative, environmentally friendly, simple, and also romantic and fashionable. The wedding eliminated the complicated and advocated simplicity and environmental protection—such an approach is worth learning from and promoting.
The reporter did the math: currently, bridal processions in downtown areas typically use Audi cars, with a rental price of about 500 yuan per vehicle; renting Mercedes-Benz or BMW vehicles costs around 1,000 yuan per car; and if even higher-end vehicles are rented, the price is even higher. Usually, a bridal car fleet consists of at least six vehicles. Both the bride’s and groom’s families also hire wedding planning companies for on-site support, with total costs often exceeding 10,000 yuan. However, Xiao Yu and Xiao Bing’s wedding only cost 2,000 yuan for the bridal procession.
