China News Service, Jan. 6 — According to foreign media reports on the 6th, a spokesperson for German Chancellor Merkel said that Merkel suffered a pelvic fracture while skiing and needs to stay in bed for at least three weeks, with recent visit plans having been canceled.
According to reports, the spokesperson said Merkel was injured while cross-country skiing in Switzerland. She currently has a broken pelvis and will try to stay in bed for the next three weeks. Her originally scheduled visit itinerary has also been canceled.
The spokesperson also said the skiing accident caused serious bruising to Merkel.
German Chancellor Merkel was born in July 1954 in Hamburg, Germany, and holds a Ph.D. in physics. In November 2005, Merkel became the German Chancellor, making her the country’s first female chancellor, and has since been re-elected twice.
