North Korea’s Masikryong Ski Resort.
According to a report by South Korea’s Asia Economy, citing a Voice of America report on the 23rd, North Korea’s Masikryong Ski Resort will officially open to foreign tourists at the end of this month, with domestic travel agencies in the country currently offering various tour packages. The report quotes the director of the U.S.-based North Korea-specialized travel agency “Our Travel” as saying: “North Korea will launch its first ski tour package for foreign tourists starting on the 27th of this month.”
According to the director, six tourists have already applied to visit North Korea, most of them Americans. These tourists are set to arrive in Pyongyang on the 27th, head to Masikryong Ski Resort the following day, and return to the U.S. on the 31st. “Our Travel” will also offer four additional ski tours to North Korea on the 6th and 20th of next month, and on the 3rd of March—each a five-day, four-night trip priced at $1,895.
Voice of America also reported that the Beijing-based Koryo Tours will launch North Korea ski tour routes on February 21st, March 15th, and April 3rd, with large-scale marketing campaigns currently underway. However, the agency noted that medical facilities at Masikryong Ski Resort are currently very poor, advising tourists to pay attention to safety during their visit.
Koryo Tours stated that although there are currently four medical clinics at Masikryong Ski Resort, the medical services and facilities are substandard, and it is essential to purchase travel medical insurance before departure.
