French Provence lodge vibes at a hidden garden brunch spot in Dihua Street

Have you ever imagined sharing a relaxing morning or afternoon meal with your dearest friends in a garden scene straight out of a European oil painting? That was my first impression when I stepped into d.g Café. This setting is perfect for photos — whether you’re dressed in formal wear or a cosplay-style ball gown.

I stumbled upon this café purely because of my early-rising habit. One day, when my friend and I wanted to grab breakfast, we found that although Dihua Street has many shops, there weren’t any cozy breakfast spots open before 8 AM where we could sit for a while. After reluctantly clicking through place after place on Google Maps, I finally discovered this “d.g coffee” near the intersection of Minquan West Road and Dihua Street. It turns out, this is actually the restaurant of a hotel, located in the atrium. Sunlight streams in, the air conditioning is strong enough, and even on a July morning, the temperature stays around 26°C — warm and comfortable, making me feel like stretching like a cat.

The fake doors and windows on the walls are purely decorative, so don’t think you can open them and walk through. Every table and chair bursts with vibrant colors, full of Provençal charm.

There are also seats like this one, where floral cushions and red brick walls create a cozy country-style corner.

Breakfast service starts at 7 AM, and it’s open not only to hotel guests but also to the general public. During the morning hours, you can get an American breakfast for $250. Oddly enough, Taiwanese TV plays overhead... personally, I’d probably switch to CNN or something, or else I might end up watching surveillance footage on the news again.

Open the bread basket, and you’ll find white toast you can toast yourself — take as many slices as you like, with unlimited jam and butter. Coffee, black tea, and orange juice are also self-serve.

Here comes the breakfast. Look at all this bacon, ham, hot dog, and tuna — definitely high-protein... but for those who prefer lighter flavors, this breakfast might feel a bit heavy. More fruits and vegetables would have suited my taste better.
