The much-discussed case in the industry of transitioning from OEM (original equipment manufacturing) to private branding—the Quanzhou model—can be exemplified by the transformation of Kaier Garment into the e-commerce brand GemenShi. In 2010, Wu Zhichao, the general manager of Kaier Garment, who was struggling to transition from foreign trade OEM to brand management, devoted himself to running the online fashion brand GemenShi. In less than two years, it ranked among the top three men’s apparel “Taobao Brands” on Taobao.com, with an average daily shipment volume exceeding 10,000 items. Similarly, online brands like “Jinbeile” and “Kadino” have also made impressive debuts and gained popularity. And there are many more such transformation stories. It is precisely the e-commerce policies from the government and the drive from enterprises daring to embark on the e-commerce journey that have propelled Quanzhou in its quest to become a national e-commerce demonstration city.
To enhance the promotional atmosphere for the creation of a national e-commerce demonstration city, in accordance with the requirements of the Quanzhou Municipal Government’s “Notice on Ten Measures to Create a National E-commerce Demonstration City and Further Accelerate the Development of E-commerce,” the 2014 (5th) China Footwear and Apparel E-commerce Summit and the Quanzhou National E-commerce Demonstration City Development Achievements Exhibition will be held on April 17, 2014, at the Wanda Vista Hotel in Quanzhou’s Pushi area. The event is hosted by the Quanzhou Municipal People’s Government, co-hosted by Global Shoes Network, and organized by the Quanzhou Economic and Trade Commission, the Quanzhou E-commerce Center, and the Quanzhou E-commerce Association.
