Youth fades away in the blink of an eye, and different eras bring distinct cultural impacts and trends. Drawing on these cultural elements, Taipei Happenings has recreated memories from 1950–1990 with the “Class Reunion” exhibition, bringing people together to relive their youth. To complement the class reunion theme, a special themed set menu has also been launched, featuring nostalgic eats like street-side sausage stalls, instant noodles, oyster vermicelli, and retro lunchboxes.

▲ “Eighteen Already” pairs French-style fish sausage with classic Taiwanese sausage.

The class reunion themed set menu consists of five dishes. “Eighteen Already” features French-style fish sausage with classic Taiwanese sausage, evoking memories of street-side sausage stalls and the playful dice games with vendors over who’s “eighteen already.” “Prince Invincible Shrimp” combines Ise-style somen noodles with pan-seared king prawns, where the crispy somen noodles mimic the beloved texture of childhood Prince noodles. “Springtime Fried Without Limits” is a dry-style oyster vermicelli version made with oysters instead of clams, replacing handmade noodles with fried potato sticks and served with large oysters and crispy pork intestines.

“Don’t Steal My Lunch!” is a retro lunchbox with lard rice and pork belly. Taipei Happenings’ PR representative GiGi explained that the fun dish names were inspired by school days when classmates would fight over the tastiest bits in their lunchboxes. The lard rice is made with Taiwan No. 9 rice, red quinoa, and small barley, paired with crispy pork belly, soft-boiled egg, pickled radish, and served in a metal lunchbox—instantly bringing back childhood memories for those born in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s.

Dessert “Zero Ducks Eggs” features candied egg custard with pineapple and rosemary sorbet. The chef designed this dish to symbolize turning the nightmare of getting “zero ducks eggs” (failing grades) in school into a fresh start in adulthood—a journey of redemption and a perfect new chapter.

▲ “Charming Steak.”

“Charming Steak” is not part of the set menu, but can be added for an extra NT$680. Back in the day, taking someone out for steak was a classic move to impress—complete with sizzling steak, noodles, and eggs, the ultimate trendy combo.
