Wang Yongfeng’s proposal during this year’s Two Sessions is to accelerate the construction of national hiking trails. He said that more and more Chinese people are getting into outdoor mountain hiking these days, but we still lack the necessary hiking trails. In contrast, many developed countries such as the United States have well-established hiking trail systems that are not only suitable for fitness but also ensure safety.
He noted that China has so far built 12 national-level hiking trails, which have played a positive role—not only for fitness but also by integrating with natural scenery and boosting local economic development.
Regarding the promotion and construction of hiking trails, Wang Yongfeng offered specific suggestions: First, a standardized certification system needs to be established, which requires participation from multiple sectors, as trail construction also involves planning, forestry, tourism, and local governments. Second, hiking trails are divided into five levels, with level five being the most challenging. Everyone can choose a level based on their own ability. “With more hiking trails available, people will have more choices and won’t need to hike on unregulated mountains,” Wang said with a smile.
