At the International Tourism Fair in Madrid, Spain, Mr. Gabriel Escarrer, Vice Chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, unveiled the company’s most inspiring global growth strategy to date. In 2013, Meliá Hotels International signed at least one new hotel agreement every two weeks on average, and under its recent expansion into emerging markets, it will operate hotels in 40 countries simultaneously for the first time. Meliá Hotels International has successfully solidified its leadership as a management company in the international hospitality industry.

Among the 2014 highlights, in addition to ME Mallorca, Escarrer also announced the launch of its trendy ME brand in Ibiza, along with the complete redesign of the former S'Argamassa Hotel into a luxury design property.

Long-awaited openings are also set to launch this year, such as the ultra-modern Meliá Vienna, the group’s first hotel in Austria, designed by renowned architect Dominique Perrault and located in Austria’s tallest building; and Gran Meliá Xi’an, a luxury flagship in the major Asian city. Other new openings include Meliá Jinan (China), Meliá Danang (Vietnam), Meliá Jamaica, Meliá Paulista, and TRYP Belo Horizonte (all in Brazil), Steigenberger Hotel Wolfsburg (Germany), and Gran Meliá Dunas (Cape Verde).
