Yilan French Pastry Shop – The whipped cream on the mascarpone cake is insanely delicious

I stepped into this little shop thanks to a strong recommendation from a friend, as it’s rare to find good cakes in Yilan, especially ones made by hand by the owners. That afternoon, I also came to this small “grumpy long face” shop located behind the Yilan Provincial Governor’s Office Memorial Hall in Xinyue Plaza. Though I only ordered a simple coffee and a rolled cake, the taste was so good I wanted to come back again and again.

The shop isn’t big, but it’s decorated with flowers and plants, adding a relaxing vibe.

Don’t fall asleep here!! Haha, it’d really be something if someone could doze off in such a small café without worrying about what others think.

It’s truly a tiny place—there are fewer than twenty seats in total. The shop has a bit of a rustic country style, and there are several cute paintings by Yoshitomo Nara on the walls.

The tables here have a vintage feel. This style has been especially popular in recent years. In the past, many were actually made from old furniture, and I recently saw some furniture shops offering lots of imitation antique pieces.

The menu is very simple, featuring only drinks and desserts. There’s tea, coffee, juice, and the coffee beans used are from the well-known Tiger Coffee in Yilan.

I heard the owner went abroad to study the craft, so the quality of the ingredients used is really high.

In terms of pricing, the rates are quite reasonable. If you think it’s too expensive, you can go for something like an éclair for just 35 NT. If you trust the quality, you can try a few pricier items too!! This setup is perfect for Yilan.

A simple meal for one person.

Iced latte—smooth, mellow, and delicious.

This mascarpone cake is absolutely amazing. The cake itself is soft and fluffy, while the filling is creamy without being overly sweet or greasy—you can tell it’s made with top-quality cream. The golden crust is dusted with a bit of powdered sugar. It’s almost too pretty to eat. This is truly a dessert that makes you feel happy inside.

I heard the desserts offered here aren’t fixed—they have little surprises every day.
