Last updated 2026-11-08 — At CES2014, wearable devices had already heralded the rise of a new digital smart lifestyle. As the most accessible type of smart device, smartwatches from manufacturers around the world have all featured their own unique characteristics. And Magellan, a veteran brand in GPS products, following the market success of the Switch and Switchup...
Here’s a second complaint about the Echo: Magellan’s localization efforts are really lacking. No user manual for the Echo was found in the packaging (neither in Chinese nor English), only a card printed with the official website address and a QR code. Visiting the website linked on the card automatically redirects the browser to http://active.magellangps.com/echo/gettingstarted, which is the Echo’s user guide. The included Magellan heart rate monitor did come with an instruction manual in both English and French, and the only Chinese content in the package was the warranty card.

Here’s another gripe about the Echo: Magellan really could do better with localization. There was no user manual for the Echo in the box (in either Chinese or English), just a card with the website address and a QR code. When you go to the site on the card, your browser auto-redirects to http://active.magellangps.com/echo/gettingstarted — that’s the Echo’s user tutorial. The included Magellan heart rate monitor did come with an English-French bilingual manual, and the only Chinese item in the packaging was the warranty card.

The Echo features a circular watch face design. Although most smartwatches currently opt for rectangular displays to show more content, a round face is clearly more in line with the traditional image of a watch in most people’s minds. The Echo’s choice of a circular design seems to convey the idea that “this is a watch, not just a smart device.” The four buttons on the side of the watch face are set by default as follows: upper left for backlight, lower left for back, upper right for music, and lower right for confirmation. To change the button functions, you’ll need to use the Magellan Echo Utility app, which is specifically designed for the Echo.
