Whether it’s the old houses at street corners or retro shops tucked away in alleys, Tainan’s richly nostalgic charm always captivates visitors. To promote local character, the Tainan City Government Tourism Bureau launched two special maps this September—“Tainan Nostalgia Treasure Hunt” and “Tainan Museum Journey”—designed to help tourists fully explore the beauty of Tainan through the maps.

The Tainan Museum Journey map highlights major museums across Tainan, including the Oyster Shell Kiln Cultural Museum and Fort Zeelandia Museum in Anping District, the Tainan Indigenous Peoples Cultural Hall; the Taiwan Literature Museum, Lins Department Store, and Ye Shi-Tao Literature Memorial Hall in West Central District; the Tucuo Rural Art Museum in Houpi District; the Chimei Museum and Shigum Sugar Creative Park in Rende District; and the Nanying Astronomical Museum in Daliao District, among others. These spots are perfect for families looking to explore Tainan’s unique culture and heritage up close.

When visiting Tainan, aside from exploring treehouses and sampling authentic street food, taking a literary walk through the old streets is a must. The “Nostalgia Treasure Hunt Map” mainly introduces charming vintage and second-hand shops, immersing visitors in Tainan’s nostalgic ambiance. The map also features illustrations by artist Dayuren, who captures Tainan through his eyes and playful, lively brushstrokes. Shops like Great Tainan Second-Hand Bookstore and Home Furnishings & Miscellany Store have become prime treasure spots on the map.
