(By Guo Derong of Maidian.com) On April 18, 2014, the "2014 Best East China Summit Forum and the 3rd Most Attractive Employers Awards Ceremony in the Hotel and Catering Industry" was grandly held at the Hilton Hangzhou Songcheng Resort. Qiao Yi, founder and CEO of Best East China, Xianzhi, Maidian, Qiaobang Headhunting, and Meidian, delivered a speech. The following is the content of his address—

Qiao Yi: Distinguished leaders, guests, ladies and gentlemen, good morning. It is my great honor to gather with all friends here in Hangzhou to participate in the 2014 Best East China Summit Forum and the 3rd Most Attractive Employers Awards Ceremony in the Hotel and Catering Industry. On behalf of the forum organizers, I would like to extend a warm welcome and sincere thanks to all the leaders, guests, award-winning enterprise representatives, and media friends present at this forum.

In light of the current realities of the hotel industry, based on the big data platform of Best East China, we have conducted extensive big data analysis, and today I would like to share a set of data with you.

In 2013, 17,375 enterprises posted a total of 42,706 job listings on the Best East China platform, with a total recruitment demand of 1.12 million people. Data analysis shows that compared to 2012, the number of recruiting enterprises in 2013 increased by 6.7%, the total demand volume rose by 82.15%, and the proportion of front-line staff recruitment decreased by 3 percentage points. From the data, although the overall number of recruiting enterprises did not increase significantly, the number of job positions and vacancies saw a substantial rise. We conducted more detailed data analysis on this issue and discovered a phenomenon.

In 2013, many hotel groups carried out brand segmentation, with significant moves made by international hotel brands, domestic hotel brands, and economy hotel brands alike. Today, some hotels have already completed their brand segmentation, while others are undergoing the process in 2014. This is a phenomenon worthy of close attention within our industry. As a result, we find that the number of hotel positions and roles has increased, especially in emerging mid-range hotels and themed hotels. This area requires more attention from human resources.

In 2013, due to the impact of the broader environment, the recruitment ratio of some employees relatively declined. However, once brand segmentation is completed, the industry landscape in 2014 and 2015 will be readjusted, and the demand for front-line staff will enter another peak. In other words, the challenge of recruitment will become even greater. This is a signal.

In terms of college cooperation, in 2012, 703 colleges applied to post graduate information on Best East China, supplying a total of 38,454 graduates; in 2013, the number of applications reached 1,624, supplying a total of 46,326 graduates, an increase of 24.7% year-on-year. This is a set of data we would like to share with you.

In 2014, we will analyze and integrate more backend data. We believe that many reports, once released, will enhance the industry’s understanding and development of human resources.

Next, I would also like to share with you the operational status of Best East China in 2014. In 2014, based on the matching needs of enterprises and employees, Best East China developed information for both job seekers and companies. In the future, we will provide more targeted employer services, delivering employer information more accurately to job seekers. Conversely, we will also push job seeker information to employers, enabling them to quickly find suitable talent.

In 2014, in terms of college cooperation, we will not limit ourselves to simply posting information. In the past, we worked with many colleges to provide graduate and intern information to enterprises, facilitating communication between them. However, in 2014, we will help colleges strengthen their interaction with the industry. On the surface, colleges and enterprises often interact, but we have found that such interaction is not very deep—it mostly seems to revolve around obvious needs, where you need to hire and we need to solve the problem. But I hope to foster more in-depth interaction between the industry and colleges, providing colleges with a wealth of practical hospitality courses and delivering Xianzhi’s 800 multimedia courses to enhance the skills of faculty and students. Finally, I would like to say that we have the largest data platform in the industry, we understand the needs of the sector, and we will make greater efforts in data analysis and talent development. We hope Best East China can more effectively promote the development of human resources in China’s hotel industry, help Chinese hotel professionals grow healthily, and achieve their dreams. Thank you all.
