A distance of 42.195 kilometers is not something most people can easily complete, and when factors like climate and route are added, finishing a marathon is already an impressive achievement for the average person.
Ramirez, who lives in Southern California, USA, is only 11 years old but has already completed two marathons—the Los Angeles Marathon and the Orange County Marathon. She told ABC News in Los Angeles that running a marathon is a lot of fun, and she really enjoys the sights she sees along the way. She’s also excited when others call her a marathon runner.
Still in the sixth grade, Ramirez was introduced to the world of marathons by her older sister, and her father is very supportive of her as well. Her father often rides a bicycle alongside her while she runs to monitor her condition. For her, running marathons isn’t about competition—it’s about the joy of finishing.
Ramirez finished the International Peace Marathon in Rwanda, Africa, yesterday. She has also signed up for marathons in Mongolia and New Zealand later this year. Next year, she plans to run in Antarctica, Europe, and South America, aiming to complete marathons on all continents before turning 12.
Ramirez’s father said it’s joyful to share such a wonderful experience with his daughter, and it feels like there’s a voice inside his child urging him to complete this goal together with Ramirez.
