With holidays approaching, it’s a perfect opportunity for those usually busy with work or studies to get close to nature and experience its charm. Covering 9.6 million square kilometers, China boasts countless beautiful spots, but the Great Huangguoshu Tourism Circle is definitely worth a visit to witness its stunning beauty.
In the Great Huangguoshu Tourism Circle, aside from breathtaking scenery, the area also offers ethnic-themed cuisine, medicinal herbs, and goods, creating a unique “most dazzling ethnic style.” Nowadays, the Great Huangguoshu Tourism Circle is renowned for its diverse tourism projects, pristine and unpolluted environment, and the simple hospitality of local residents, earning it the title of an “eco-cultural tourism destination,” attracting large numbers of domestic and international tourists every year.
The Great Huangguoshu Tourism Circle is a relatively resource-rich western tourism zone primarily developed by the Huangguoshu Group. In 2013, the Huangguoshu Tourism Group invited nearly 100 executives from well-known travel companies across North China, Northeast China, East China, the Pearl River Delta, Southwest China, as well as within the province, to brainstorm and promote the “Great Huangguoshu Tourism Circle” nationwide. So when traveling to Guizhou, don’t miss out on experiencing the magical journey offered by this tourism circle.
Compared to typical scenic areas, the Great Huangguoshu Tourism Circle features diverse and ever-changing attractions, offering a perfect visual feast. The most world-renowned site in the entire circle is the Huangguoshu Waterfall, which stands 77.8 meters high and spans 101 meters wide. It is the only waterfall in the world that can be viewed from six angles — above, below, front, back, left, and right — making it truly magical.
Within the Great Huangguoshu Tourism Circle, you can visit the Bonsai Garden, located inside the Huangguoshu Waterfall scenic area, covering 40 acres with over 3,000 types of bonsai and tree pots. It’s a natural botanical jungle with beautiful surroundings and fresh air, often referred to as a natural “oxygen bar.”
Remember the magic of the Water Curtain Cave from Journey to the West? Those who have visited the Huangguoshu Waterfall know that midway down the falls, there is a 134-meter-long Water Curtain Cave that runs through the entire waterfall, with six cave windows hidden behind the cascading water. Stepping into the Water Curtain Cave, the sound of the falls is incredibly vivid, with water droplets hanging like curtains within arm’s reach — truly the “world’s most marvelous cave.”
On the side of the mountaintop above the Huangguoshu Waterfall, in Huangguoshu Town, there is a residential area that stretches through the Huangguoshu scenic zone, locally known as “Banbian Street.” Located in the core scenic area of the waterfall, it lies along the mandatory travel route from the Huangguoshu Archway to Doupotang, Eagle’s Beak, the Church, and the entrance of the Huangguoshu Waterfall scenic area. In the past, although “Banbian Street” was home to many locals, it was also a source of distress. In 2012, Huangguoshu finally completed the historic relocation project of “Banbian Street.” A new eco-tourism city was built 4 kilometers outside the scenic area, becoming the new home for former residents. Meanwhile, the newly renovated Doupotang–Banbian Street leisure trail has quickly become a popular and highlight attraction — the karst-mountain-following boardwalk allows visitors to slow down and fully appreciate the beauty of the great waterfall. With this, the long-standing obstacles to Huangguoshu’s development have been completely removed, ushering in a brand-new era of opportunities.
Beyond the main waterfall, Huangguoshu also boasts natural sights and primitive villages such as Doupotang, Tianxingqiao, Yinlian Zhui Tan Waterfall, Baling River, Langgong, Huashishao, and the Buyi Stone Village. The Great Huangguoshu Tourism Circle truly lives up to being one of the destinations with the most attractions.
In terms of food and shopping, Huangguoshu and its surrounding Anshun region offer a variety of ethnic-flavored delicacies such as Huajiang Dog Meat, Spicy Egg Custard, Chicken Cake, and Grilled Pan Dishes — all spicy and delicious, sure to give inland visitors a unique taste of Anshun. There are also locally distinctive batik fabrics, as well as natural herbs like Eucommia and Gastrodia Elata, which have become highly popular among tourists.
After years of development, Huangguoshu is no longer just about “one waterfall and one bridge.” The construction and growth of the Huangguoshu scenic area have been rapid. Currently, an international-standard RV camping base has been established within the Huangguoshu scenic area. The RV campground complements the waterfall, Gothic church, eco-friendly wooden boardwalks, and natural landscapes, forming a new emerging industry that combines leisure camping with sightseeing experiences.
The development of the RV base is a key move by the scenic area to promote self-drive tourism. In response to the increasing number of self-driving tourists from Guizhou, Chongqing, Sichuan, Chengdu, and elsewhere, the Huangguoshu scenic area has enhanced infrastructure related to self-driving. It is also advancing the formation of a Guizhou tourism route connecting Huangguoshu, Southeast Guizhou, and Southwest Guizhou, aiming to provide self-driving tourists with a better travel experience in Guizhou. This initiative further drives innovation and upgrades within the scenic area.
This shows that the transformation and upgrading of Huangguoshu’s tourism industry, along with the enrichment of its premium tourism product system, are already showing initial success. From tapping into local natural and cultural resources to experimenting with various new forms of tourism, Huangguoshu is gradually moving toward a transition from sightseeing to leisure and vacation-oriented development.
Through this brief introduction by our website, have you become interested in the Great Huangguoshu Tourism Circle?
