With every knot tied in the rope as I climb higher, I become a little more certain of myself; with every grip on a solid rock, my heart grows steadier. During the climb, I constantly converse with the mountain and make peace with my own imperfections. And when I stand atop an unclaimed summit for the first time, I distinctly hear the voice within me: Goodbye, that once timid and insecure girl. How much longer must we wait to live for ourselves?
Yi Siting, nicknamed Xiao Po, was born in Huwei Town, Yunlin County, Taiwan Province. Like most children, she bore the earnest expectations of adults from a young age. From Taipei Municipal First Girls' High School to the Department of Information Science at National Taiwan University, and eventually to the Ivy League’s University of Pennsylvania in the United States, where she earned a Ph.D. in computer science. She became the pride of her parents’ eyes, but at the age of 24, she resolutely gave up her high-paying job and set off to wander the world and embrace the wilderness, searching for a dream she could devote her life to. Skiing, wilderness trekking, white-water rafting, glacier exploration — step by step, she finally found her destined bond with climbing. During her climbs, she constantly conversed with the mountain and made peace with her own imperfections. Living out of her car, she continued her nomadic climbing life, setting her sights on global big walls, determined to summit cliffs no one had ever climbed before.
