Departure · At 7:30 a.m. on July 8, members of the Fudan Mountaineering Team’s 2014 Summer Expedition set off at sunrise from the main gate of Fudan University, aiming for Que'er Mountain, which stands at an altitude of 6,168 meters in Garzê Prefecture, Sichuan Province. These young people in their twenties are heading to a distant land. They will take a train to Chengdu and then transfer to two days of bus rides to reach Garzê County, with plans to enter the mountain and begin climbing on July 12.
Return · This marks the first time in eight years that the Fudan Mountaineering Team has attempted a peak above 6,000 meters. In 2006, the joint Fudan-Jiaotong Icewing Mountaineering Team made an alpine-style ascent of the then-less-developed Que'er Mountain. The flag from that year still hangs on the wall of the Xinluhai Nature Reserve office, and the veterans specifically asked for it to be found. Now, the Fudan Mountaineering Team returns to where their dreams began, embarking on a new journey.
Wishing the Fudan Mountaineering Team a safe and successful climb, and may the bright red flag flutter atop the peak of their dreams !
