On July 16, the 2014 China Sports Lottery National Youth Alpine Skiing Summer Camp, jointly organized by the Youth and Sports Department of the General Administration of Sport of China, hosted by the Chinese Ski Association, and co-organized by Beijing Qiaobo Indoor Skiing Arena, grandly opened at the Beijing Qiaobo Indoor Skiing Arena. Attendees included Ms. Wang Chunlu, Director of the Mass Ice and Snow Sports Department of the Winter Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, Mr. Yang Jun, Deputy Director of the Mass Ice and Snow Sports Department of the Winter Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, and Mr. Xu Bin, General Manager of Qiaobo Indoor Skiing Arena. In addition, World Short Track Speed Skating Champions Mr. Li Jiajun and Ms. Sun Dandan, World Pair Figure Skating Champion Ms. Zhang Dan, World Freestyle Aerials Champion Ms. Guo Dandan, and former head coach of the national alpine skiing team Mr. Guo Junchang were also invited. The star-studded lineup left a deep impression on the children attending the camp.
This marks the 7th year that Qiaobo Indoor Skiing Arena has hosted winter and summer skiing camps. As the only training base in Beijing offering year-round skiing, professional ski training, and instruction, Qiaobo Indoor Skiing Arena houses a specialized ski sports school and boasts a strong team of ski instructors. It is precisely for this reason that the General Administration of Sport of China chose to hold such an important camp here. After 5 days and 4 nights of training, the young campers will master solid skiing skills and receive an alpine skiing level certificate issued by the Chinese Ski Association.
This summer camp has also garnered the attention of Ms. Ye Qiaobo, the legendary figure in short track speed skating and the initiator of Qiaobo Indoor Skiing Arena. Reflecting on her own ice and snow sports career and her aspirations for the sport, Ms. Ye spoke with deep emotion. She said:
"By chance, I embarked on the path of ice and snow sports. This sport seemed tailor-made for me, opening a new chapter in my life. Ice and snow sports launched my career, and from then on, I began striving toward the dream of becoming a national champion. With my passion and dedication to the sport, along with years of hard work, I eventually became the first Asian to win an Olympic medal in winter sports. Looking back on these years, only three words can describe my feelings: gratitude, appreciation, and reflection. I am moved by the honors bestowed upon me; thankful for the support of leaders, coaches, and audiences; and reflective of how much the times and society have changed. Today’s youth have more opportunities, choices, and better skiing conditions than I did, and they also possess more passion and dreams. I believe the spirit of ice and snow sports will be passed on through these students who are full of endless enthusiasm and dreams. The future of China's ice and snow sports development lies in your hands." Speaking of this, Ms. Ye spoke with great confidence.
When discussing Beijing’s bid to host the Winter Olympics, Ms. Ye Qiaobo said:
"This is a wonderful thing. The Winter Olympics will allow the world to know more about China. If the bid is successful, Beijing will become the only city to have hosted both the Summer and Winter Olympics, which will greatly boost our national pride. The Olympics will also leave behind a rich legacy, keeping people passionate about sports. Currently, Beijing’s existing ski facilities are largely able to meet the requirements, and snow events will positively drive the economy of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. Young people will also benefit from it."
