On the afternoon of July 23, the first nine officially contracted Coach K coaches signed agreements with the KAILAS brand. Coach K is the abbreviated name for “KAILAS Contracted Coaches,” a public welfare project established and supported by the KAILAS brand aimed at rewarding and supporting outdoor coaching communities. The program is implemented once a year, selecting and contracting coaches who are actively involved in outdoor training work. It provides support to these outstanding outdoor coaches, nurturing and retaining the core strength of the outdoor training community, enabling more outdoor enthusiasts to learn outdoor knowledge scientifically and master standardized outdoor skills, thereby promoting the standardized and healthy development of outdoor training education in China.

At the ceremony, Cao Jun, Brand Director of KAILAS, delivered a speech on behalf of the company, welcoming the first batch of Coach K coaches to join KAILAS in supporting the training and education cause. Wang Yunlong, a representative from the Training Department of the Chinese Mountaineering Association, also gave a talk on how coaching strength promotes outdoor sports. Subsequently, Kong Youlong, Project Manager of the Coach K initiative, introduced the background and selection criteria of the entire project.
After six months of planning and preparation, the Coach K project was first announced and opened for public recruitment on May 15, 2014. The selection process includes four stages: application, evaluation, public announcement, and contract signing. The selected coaches will eventually sign with the KAILAS brand. The project targets include national vocational qualification trainers for outdoor/rock climbing sports and graduates or registered coaches from local mountaineering associations’ KAILAS Outdoor Coaching Growth Programs. Ultimately, the following nine active frontline outdoor training coaches were selected as the first group of Coach K:
Kong Youlong (Wild Horse) — National Vocational Qualification Trainer for Outdoor Sports
Wu Tao (Marathon) — National Vocational Qualification Trainer for Outdoor Sports
Xu Bo (Sailor) — National Vocational Qualification Trainer for Outdoor Sports
Jiang Xiaotian (Popeye) — National Vocational Qualification Trainer for Outdoor Sports
Liu Zexian (Lei Feng) — National Vocational Qualification Trainer for Rock Climbing Sports
Lei Dongfeng (23) — Registered Coach of the Shenzhen Mountaineering and Outdoor Sports Association
Li Wei (Tyson) — Registered Coach of the Shenzhen Mountaineering and Outdoor Sports Association
Xu Xiaofeng (Veteran) — Registered Coach of the Shenzhen Mountaineering and Outdoor Sports Association
Lai Difan (Yuchuan) — Registered Coach of the Guangzhou Extreme and Mountaineering Sports Association
