This weekend marks the three-day National Day holiday. Yilan, which usually sees a surge in traffic during holidays, has published the periods of heavier traffic flow for both southbound and northbound trips over the three-day break. The Yilan County Government’s Construction Bureau also advises travelers to use public transportation such as Taiwan Railways and national freeway buses when visiting Yilan.

The Construction Bureau stated that during the three-day holiday, heavy traffic from tourists is expected during peak hours, especially on the 10th, which is predicted to have a two-way traffic volume of 67,000 vehicle trips in a single day. Congestion may occur on some road sections. The Bureau has also released the periods of heavier southbound and northbound traffic over the three-day holiday and reminds the public to take note:

October 8 (Saturday)
Peak southbound traffic periods on Freeway 5: Heavy traffic starting from 6 AM, lasting until 6 PM
Peak northbound traffic periods on Freeway 5: Heavy traffic starting around 4 PM, lasting until 9 PM

October 9 (Sunday)
Peak southbound traffic periods on Freeway 5: Heavy traffic starting from 7 AM, lasting until 3 PM
Peak northbound traffic periods on Freeway 5: Heavy traffic starting from 12 PM, lasting until 10 PM

October 10 (Monday)
Peak southbound traffic periods on Freeway 5: Smooth traffic
Peak northbound traffic periods on Freeway 5: Heavy traffic between 9 AM and 4 PM, and again between 8 PM and 9 PM.
