On September 16, the Taining Mountain Outdoor Race entered its second day, covering a 55-kilometer course featuring bridge descents, kayaking, mountain biking, swimming, and cross-country running. Competition among the top teams in the mixed category remained fierce, with the Red Bull Team’s Ursheer couple finishing third with a time of 4 hours, 12 minutes, and 27 seconds. Red Bull Team 2’s Yesen and Hu Wanzhe continued to shine in the men’s category, completing the race in 4 hours, 16 minutes, and 09 seconds. They not only maintained their top position in China but also successfully broke into the international elite ranks, surpassing many foreign competitors to finish fifth overall.

Foreign athletes were consistently in the lead, and media personnel accustomed to such scenes were amazed by the performance of Red Bull Team 2. When interviewing Yesen, they even asked him to write down his name. Meanwhile, leaders from the General Administration of Sport of China who were watching midway asked, “Was that a Chinese athlete who just passed? What’s his name?” A photographer who captured images of the cycling segment, upon learning he had photographed Hu Wanzhe, zoomed in on the freshly taken photo and sincerely exclaimed, “Look at the muscle definition on him!”

The Ursheer couple crossed the finish line in third place in the mixed category. Husband Richard looked a bit different today—he had shaved off the stubble on his cheeks. Irina joked that the new look might bring good luck. When asked if there were any mistakes during the race, Irina said, “We took the wrong route on the mountain bike, which cost us at least five minutes. But because we stuck together like glue, all three teams made the same mistake. Haha, that’s fair enough.” Despite competing against close and tough rivals, the couple still chatted and laughed with athletes from the higher-ranked Original Adventure Team and Peak Adventure Team. The charm of competition truly lies not just in winning or losing, but in enjoying the process of the race.

On September 17, the final day of the competition will include mountain biking, cross-country running, kayaking, and zip-lining events. Two segments of mountain biking—on both paved roads and gravel surfaces—will accumulate to a total of 35 kilometers, interspersed with cross-country running and kayaking segments.
