China.com.cn News: On November 8, 2014, the "APEC China Day Emerging Industries Forum" was held at the Tianjin Galaxy Polo Club. Bob Hawke, former Prime Minister of Australia and the father of APEC, answered questions from China.com.cn and gladly signed his name, sending a message to China’s national portal China.com.cn: "I sincerely wish for China’s continued strong development!"

Hawke shared with the China.com.cn editors his best wishes for the future development of both Australia and China.
China.com.cn asked: What would you like to see in how Chinese media report on your country, and how can people from both China and Australia come to better understand each other?
Hawke replied: What I hope to see are reports on things that both China and Australia care about and find interesting. We have had a long and important trade relationship, and over the past 30 years, we have been very important trading partners. Gradually, China has also begun investing in Australia. This is beneficial to both China and Australia. Let me give you an example — there’s a group from Shanghai that has made significant investments in the northwest region. That area is indeed rich, but before the arrival of this Shanghai-based group, it hadn’t been truly developed. They undertook major development there, and the prospects look promising. I also want to emphasize the improvements brought to the lives of local residents. The arrival of these investors has created a large number of job opportunities in the area. So, this is the kind of thing I hope to see. In addition, we share common interests in the hundreds of thousands of Chinese students studying in Australia. These students benefit themselves through their education here, and in the long run, it benefits Australia as well. These students are like long-term ambassadors for Australia stationed in China because they return home with positive impressions of Australia. This is increasingly important for two reasons: first, it helps foster greater mutual understanding between our two countries; second, with these positive impressions, they can become ambassadors promoting Australia.
As China’s national portal representing the nation’s reputation and image, China.com.cn is the only commercial website in China characterized by "multiple languages, multiple terminals, and all-media." It publishes information daily in 12 languages (Chinese, English, Russian, Japanese, Spanish, Hindi, Turkish, Vietnamese, Filipino, Thai, Indonesian, Korean), in various formats including audio, video, and text. With the core feature of "Chinese content, international expression" and the pursuit of "global content, Chinese values," it tells China’s stories to the world, spreads China’s voice, interprets China’s changes, and showcases China’s image, exerting an increasingly wide global influence. On June 20, 2014, at the China New Media Portal Conference hosted by the China E-Commerce Association, China.com.cn won three major awards for 2014: "Most Innovative Portal," "Most Investment-Valuable Portal," and "Most Commercially Valuable Portal."
