Renovating old buildings is all the rage these days—abandoned structures are refurbished into brand-new homestays, tourist attractions, and more. This century-old sugar factory in Tainan, after being taken over and planned by the Shiyue Drum Ensemble, has been reborn as the wildly popular Shiyue Cultural & Creative Park. Not only does it incorporate a unique drum music theme, but it also features many fun landscape designs and amusement facilities. Every evening, the park lights up brilliantly—it’s simply magical！

The Shiyue Cultural & Creative Park was formerly the Ren De Che Lu X? Qian? (original name unclear), a long-standing sugar factory in Tainan. After years of operation, the local cultural authorities decided to take over its management and transform it into a cultural and artistic theme park focused on rhythm and music, making it a new highlight of the region’s cultural scene.

The most eye-catching attraction here is undoubtedly the drum performance. Through group reservations, visitors can sit and enjoy a 30-minute live show. The former factory’s Dream Sugar Theater retains parts of the original building framework and machinery. Amid the pulsating drums and colorful lights, you’ll experience a double sensory thrill for both your ears and eyes.

The well-established Drum Museum displays traditional drums from Asian regions such as Taiwan, China, Japan, and Korea, including single-head giant drums and geometric triangular drums. To leave a lasting impression on visitors, the operators have also added a static performance stage, enhanced with virtual reality equipment for added interactivity.

Breaking away from conventional cultural park concepts, the Shiyue Cultural Village features several recreational spots, the most famous of which is the “Chimney Slide.” This semi-transparent spiral track glows blue at night and stands 13.5 meters high—about five stories—and claims to be the tallest extreme slide in Asia, attracting young visitors who line up for this rare thrill.
Since the “Chimney Slide” is for adults only, children who want to slide can head to the kids’ area—a 7-meter-high spiral slide made of stacked cube pathways, letting kids crawl through freely, with a ball pit at the bottom.

Other popular attractions include the tower rappelling, rock climbing, and archery range. At the top of the giant sugar tank, put on your gear and start the upside-down free-hanging descent. Aside from testing your courage, you’ll also enjoy views of the park. The rock climbing wall, with its web-like backdrop, is adorable and child-friendly, making everyone want to be Spider-Man.
The archery range uses toy bows and arrows instead of real ones—for safety and to let everyone have fun. All recreational facilities are supervised by staff, making visitors feel very reassured and worry-free about accidents.

Don’t worry about getting hungry while exploring the park—Shijia Cultural Village houses no fewer than five dining spots: Sweet Bridge Cafe, Sugar House, Never Cheat Restaurant, Drum Ice House, and Shijia Restaurant. The cafe, with its striking interior design, features a rotating staircase overhead that gives off a futuristic vibe, while the uniquely named Never Cheat Restaurant serves as a wedding banquet venue, its playful name suggesting a lifetime of happiness for newlyweds.

The Shijia Cultural and Creative Park is vast, spanning approximately 7.5 hectares. Thanks to the careful management of the team behind it, the site boasts numerous picturesque landscapes and has even been used as a filming location for domestic movies. For instance, “Sweet Hill” at the outdoor gear stage offers a sweeping view of the entire area from atop a grassy hill. As night falls, the surrounding scenery is illuminated by vibrant lights, creating a stunning play of light and shadow.

In the Movie Theme Pavilion, the X-metal-themed restroom is a set from the domestic film “Go Go Go, Boys!” From afar, it resembles an art exhibition space, and its aesthetic ambiance has made it a favorite photo spot for netizens. The “Restoration Bookhouse,” renovated from a Japanese-era repair facility, features large letters scattered across the floor serving as seats, along with various industrial relics such as blacksmith tools, lathes, welding machines, and worker hats—creating a fascinating atmosphere that seems to tell stories of the past.
