A Three-Day Self-Drive Road Trip in Western Hunan at Your Own Pace

    I’m a lazy person. I have time to sleep, time to travel, but just can’t seem to find the time to write travel notes. Actually, it’s not that I absolutely can’t find the time—it just feels too troublesome. I’m afraid I’ll start writing and then halfway through, just put the pen down and waste half a day. This time, I’m also imitating others and trying my hand at writing a travel note, using my own itinerary as a blueprint, hoping it can be helpful to fellow travelers heading to Western Hunan.

    This trip to Western Hunan was also something I decided on a whim. I didn’t do much preparation beforehand—just skimmed through a couple of travel guides written by other travelers online before happily setting off.

    First, I arrived at the world-famous Fenghuang Ancient Town, one of the three cities known for romance (along with Lijiang, Fenghuang, and Yangshuo), and even more renowned because of Shen Congwen’s novel *Border Town*.

I hadn’t really prepared anything either. Since I was already there, I thought I’d just go with the flow. I figured it’s just a small town—spending a casual day wandering around would be fine.
