    Acclaimed as a winter retreat and a yoga haven in the rainforest, the Wangtianshu Scenic Area within the Xishuangbanna Tropical Rainforest National Park is the only oasis on the Tropic of Cancer and the only tropical rainforest in China acknowledged internationally, as it is home to the representative tree species of tropical rainforests—the Wangtianshu tree. Its discovery not only overturned the debate that China had no tropical rainforests but also further confirmed that China is one of the countries with the most complete range of forest types in the world.

    As you enter the Wangtianshu Scenic Area, you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped into the idyllic paradise described by Tao Yuanming—serene, peaceful, with warm sunlight bathing the land. Flowers of unnamed beauty bloom vibrantly, fishermen glide along the Nam La River, humming leisurely tunes, while anglers by the shore wait quietly for a bite. Occasionally, a heron or two takes flight and vanishes into the riverside woods. A hint of mist still lingers halfway up the mountain, only to dissolve in a blink into fluffy, drifting clouds in the blue sky.
