The globally acclaimed travel series Lonely Planet recently released its list of the top 10 countries, 10 regions, and 10 cities for travel in 2015. Macau was chosen as one of the top 10 regions thanks to its mix of historic and modern architecture and the allure of its multicultural fusion. Other selected regions include the Rocky Mountain National Parks in the United States, Tasmania in Australia, Northern Norway, Copper Canyon in Mexico, and the Atacama Desert in Chile. The latest edition of Lonely Planet’s travel guidebook Best in Travel 2015 and its online version will provide detailed insights into the featured countries, regions, and cities.
The authoritative travel brand Lonely Planet Publishing has been releasing its backpacker-focused travel series Lonely Planet for ten consecutive years. They polled their global staff, contributors, and writers to gather hundreds of exciting travel destinations, which were then narrowed down by a panel of travel experts to the top 10 countries, 10 regions, and 10 cities for travel.
This marks Macau’s first time being included in the “Top 10 Regions to Visit.” Reviewers noted that Macau’s entertainment industry has developed rapidly in recent years, with gaming revenues surpassing those of Las Vegas by more than six times. However, they reminded travelers not to overlook Macau’s true charm. The city offers unique cuisine known as “Macanese cuisine,” which blends over 400 years of East-meets-West influences, incorporating elements from Europe, Africa, India, and China. Visitors to Macau can pray at traditional Chinese temples, dine at Michelin-starred restaurants savoring gourmet food and fine wines, take on extreme sports like bungee jumping, or explore backstreets in search of street food and late-night snacks.
Reviewers also pointed out that Macau’s tourism services and transportation infrastructure continue to improve. Well-known hotel brands such as The Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott have established a presence in Macau, and the upcoming completion of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge signals that 2015 will be a landmark year for the city.
Additionally, the Macao Government Tourism Office’s “Rediscover Macao. Explore the Difference” campaign, launched in Hong Kong this year, was recently awarded the “My Favourite Promotional Campaign – Tourism Board” prize at the U Magazine Travel Awards 2014. The U Magazine Travel Awards, first held by U Magazine in 2013, aim to recognize individuals and brands that have made outstanding contributions to the tourism industry.
