News from WestNet: As winter sets in, skiing has become the top winter recreational activity for many residents of Xi'an. On January 1, a ski resort in Xi'an organized an event featuring numerous bikini-clad women to promote the sport and add some "sizzle" to the snowy slopes.
Reporters learned that to ensure the safety of skiers, the resort specially invited several experienced ski instructors from Northeast China to provide lessons. Coach Min, who hails from Harbin, said that although skiing is relatively easy to pick up, mastering it safely requires proper preparation.
“I suggest that people coming to ski wear loose, bright-colored clothing, which is safer for the activity. Also, it’s best to learn some basic moves from an instructor beforehand — otherwise, the early skiing experience may be less enjoyable,” said Coach Min. He added that if you can't control your skis, it’s important to learn specific falling techniques, aiming to land on your side to increase the contact surface.
Coach Min told reporters that skiing has gained popularity among more and more people in recent years, but most are just trying it out and may distance themselves from the sport later due to lack of technique. He therefore recommends that visitors, if possible, form groups and hire an instructor for basic guidance — this can greatly enhance their enjoyment of the sport.
