Growing sales figures, higher international participation, and the latest industry topics at the Asia-Pacific Snow Industry Forum—all reflect Alpitec China’s central position in the global winter sports industry.
Since 2009, alongside product exhibitions, Alpitec China has consistently hosted the international industry conference known as the Asia-Pacific Snow Industry Forum. This year, the forum will take place on Thursday, January 29, the second day of the Alpitec China exhibition, with a focus on the “Winter Olympics.”
Since its preparation began, registration for the Asia-Pacific Snow Industry Forum has been steadily increasing. Clearly, the forum’s consistent focus on “discussions about winter sports, tourism, and China’s winter industry” has proven highly appealing to many attendees. The forum’s presentations primarily concentrate on the “hardware” aspects of the winter tourism and skiing industry, such as investment, tourism development strategies, infrastructure design, and ski resort management. At the same time, issues like ski resort quality control are also receiving increasing attention.
In the morning session, Zhang Chunsheng, Executive Deputy Director of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics Bid Committee, will deliver the opening remarks, introducing Beijing’s bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics. The first presentation of the forum is titled “Planning and Operation of Olympic Ski Resorts—Challenges and Opportunities!” The speaker is Geir, Head of Sports at Rosa Khutor Alpine Resort during the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
The speech by Andreas Abold (Germany), CEO of the Marketing and Communications Department of Abold Company, is titled "Bidding for the Winter Olympics – The Munich Experience." After the first phase of the forum, a panel discussion will focus on the impact of the Winter Olympics on China’s winter sports industry, covering the following aspects: policy incentives driving the winter sports sector, competitive dynamics in China’s ski resort industry, enhancing the overall skill level and crowd management of skiers, how to effectively stimulate the winter sports market through the Winter Olympics, and the role of youth: young skiers as future consumers of winter sports equipment and apparel.
The afternoon session will primarily focus on ski resort planning: He Ping (China), General Manager of Beidahu Ski Resort, will discuss the development and challenges of ski resorts; Thomas Gould (USA) from the American firm WATG will deliver a speech titled "Ski Resort Planning – The Western Model," outlining the objectives in design. Subsequently, the forum will present two outstanding case studies: one featuring a representative from Secret Garden Ski Resort sharing management experience at suburban ski resorts in China, and another from a representative of Alep Ski Resort discussing the hosting of winter sports events and their role in ski resort development.
