Spring Festival is a time for reunion and the most important holiday for the Chinese people. As an Asian international metropolis, Hong Kong, with its authentic traditional festive customs and diverse celebratory events, attracts numerous families to go out together during the Spring Festival each year.
Jointly organized by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the themed exhibition "Reunion 'Hong Kong'" is set to make its debut in Beijing and Shanghai. The exhibition presents the authentic characteristics of Hong Kong’s inheritance of Chinese traditional festival culture through a combination of physical displays and audiovisual presentations. It will be grandly showcased at Beijing Oriental Plaza from January 16 to 18 and at Grand Gateway 66 in Shanghai from January 23 to 25, and the public is welcome to visit free of charge. Visitors can participate in on-site interactive games to win a variety of prizes, including round-trip air tickets to Hong Kong, luxury cruise holidays, hotel stays, and gourmet experiences.

The three-day "Reunion 'Hong Kong'" themed exhibition extends the core concept of unity and completeness embodied in the traditional "Tray of Togetherness" and uses physical art installations combined with audiovisual displays to vividly present the authentic Hong Kong culture that inherits Chinese traditions while blending with innovative trends, sending sincere New Year blessings to every visitor. The exhibition is divided into four major areas: the “Lucky New Year Delicacies” area features some of the most representative Hong Kong Spring Festival foods, such as the “Tray of Togetherness” symbolizing completeness and “Deep-Fried Glutinous Rice Balls” symbolizing wealth, showcasing authentic Hong Kong culture through traditional cuisine. The “New Year Customs Bring Good Fortune” area highlights the most distinctive cultural customs during Hong Kong’s Spring Festival, such as “Having Reunion Dinner on New Year’s Eve” and “Rushing for the First Incense at Wong Tai Sin Temple on the First Day of the Lunar New Year,” allowing visitors to experience these cherished traditions by following in the footsteps of local Hong Kong residents. In the “Fun Things to Do in Hong Kong During the New Year” area, participants can learn about the exciting festive activities across different districts of Hong Kong through hand-drawn illustrations, and together feel the warm, festive atmosphere as the lunar year approaches. In the “Send New Year Wishes” area, visitors can take commemorative photos against a festive backdrop and share them with family and friends online.
During the exhibition period, visitors can also participate in on-site interactive activities. Simply add the “Hong Kong Offers” service window in the Alipay app and show the screen to the staff to receive a Fortune God card and stand a chance to win attractive prizes. Visitors to the Beijing event will have the daily opportunity to win free round-trip air tickets from Beijing to Hong Kong with Hong Kong Airlines; a 5-day, 4-night cruise holiday departing from Hong Kong with Costa Cruises; food vouchers for hotels in Hong Kong and Beijing; discount vouchers for travel products in Hong Kong from eLong Travel and Beijing Spring and Autumn International Travel Agency; as well as discount vouchers for desserts from DimDim Sum and Maxim’s MX.
To fully experience Hong Kong’s vibrant festive atmosphere, in addition to visiting the "Reunion 'Hong Kong'" themed exhibition, families can also spend an authentic Lunar New Year in Hong Kong, enjoying a holiday that is both familiar and refreshingly new. Causeway Bay hosts the city’s largest Lunar New Year Flower Market, with stalls brimming with colorful festive flowers and potted plants. The spectacular Lunar New Year Parade in Tsim Sha Tsui on the first day of the Lunar New Year is sure to be a visual treat. The “Symphony of Lights” 3D light show held nightly at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza is a stunning fusion of technology and art. On the second day of the Lunar New Year, you can head to Victoria Harbour to watch the world-renowned fireworks display and make a wish under the starry night sky. On the third day, visit Che Kung Temple in Sha Tin to turn the bronze windmill alongside many worshippers and invite good fortune for the coming year. Don’t miss trying your luck at the exciting Lunar New Year horse racing events, where the atmosphere at the racetrack is charged with hope and anticipation. Head to Tai Po to explore the Lam Tsuen Wishing Trees with the locals, write down your New Year wishes, and pray for smooth sailing in the year ahead. And of course, don’t miss the chance to try Hong Kong’s iconic festive dish—basin cuisine (“poon choi”)—where an abundance of ingredients brings together the spirit of reunion and blessings.
