On January 18, 2015, the 13th Red Bull Nanshan Open came to an end. After two rounds of competition, 17-year-old Norwegian high school snowboarder Mons Roisland claimed the championship by landing a switch backside 1260, setting the highest difficulty trick in the 13-year history of the Red Bull Nanshan Open. He earned the highest score of the competition, 98.67 points, securing the champion’s medal and $20,000 in prize money. American rider Eric Beauchemin and British rider Rowan Coultas finished second and third, respectively, while Chinese rider He Wai ranked 12th.
“Mons delivered a perfect performance, and the Chinese riders have also made great progress, especially He Wai. His tricks are getting better and better—though he needs to improve consistency,” said Steve, the founder of the Red Bull Nanshan Open and an Austrian. “Now that slopestyle is an official Olympic event, if a national team is formed in the future, competitions like the Red Bull Nanshan Open can help discover and nurture more outstanding domestic riders like He Wai. I hope to see Chinese riders competing in slopestyle at the 2022 Winter Olympics.”
