Newly Opened Affordable Pour-Over Café in Tainan – A Tranquil Corner in the City

One day while riding my bike along Minzu Road, I caught the aroma of someone roasting beans and immediately followed the scent... which led me to Jué Ge Café.

In an era when blog reviews are losing their influence (at least that’s what I hear from people around me), word-of-mouth and intuitive exploration are gradually becoming the mainstream again. That’s also how I discover new cafés, and honestly, my hit rate is surprisingly low.

Although Jué Ge Café is located right behind Shin Kong Mitsukoshi’s Zhongshan branch, it’s not easy to spot when driving by — you’d only notice it on foot.

The interior decor is more thoughtfully done compared to most affordable cafés.

The espresso machine is a La Marzocco GB5.

Before opening, the owner likely trained at Wilbeck Cafe in Taipei, a specialty hand-roasted coffee shop.

There aren’t many seats on the first floor, mostly high-top stools like these.

But the second floor space is impressive.

The atmosphere here is surprisingly serene — it’s really delightful.

Let’s take a look at the menu after checking out the ambiance.

The hot latte leans slightly more toward milk flavor than coffee, with a sweet finish.

Another pour-over, a Yirgacheffe, was missed in the photos — its aroma and taste are classic fruity profiles.

From my personal perspective and experience, it’s not mind-blowingly exceptional, but the location is great, the pricing is appropriate, and with Shin Kong Mitsukoshi’s anniversary sale going on, Jué Ge has been doing quite well despite just opening. I think it’ll gradually build up momentum like this. If you’re shopping around here, do stop by for a cup.
