Bird’s Nest Fun-for-All Ice and Snow Festival Opens
During the festival, dozens of ice and snow games will be open to the public at the Bird’s Nest. At the same time, Green Field will host a series of fun-themed activities called “Youth Overflowing with Vitality, Winter Roaring with Joy.” Among all the events, five activities — “biathlon,” “ice slide,” “snow tubing square,” “snow disc” and “zorb ball” — will be offered free of charge for citizens to experience. Participants who successfully complete the challenges can receive medals and outdoor gifts. This approach enhances the competitive and entertaining aspects of the ice and snow festival, encouraging citizens and families to get involved and enjoy healthy outdoor fun.
Leaders deliver speeches at the opening ceremony
The opening day fell on a Saturday, and with most schools already on winter vacation, over a thousand citizens came to participate. Some even came as three-generation families — grandparents, parents, and children — enjoying themselves immensely in the snowy wonderland. One excited citizen said::“Our whole family loves outdoor activities that combine fitness and fun. I often join events through Green Field, and it’s perfect to bring my parents and kids out for some relaxation this weekend while supporting Beijing’s bid for the Winter Olympics.”
About 500 people registered to attend the opening ceremony via Green Field, and the expected total attendance for the week is nearly 10,000. Deputy Director Chen noted at the opening ceremony that the bid for the Winter Olympics presents a significant opportunity to widely promote winter sports and enrich the cultural and sports life of citizens during the winter months. From December 2014 to March 2015, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports will organize various types of ice and snow activities for different age groups and interests. Wang Yanqing also stated that since its establishment in 1998, Green Field has been committed to organizing outdoor activities. With the current booming development of sports and the joint bid of Beijing and Zhangjiakou for the 2022 Winter Olympics, Green Field will continue to promote the development of the outdoor sports industry, providing better services to users and allowing more people to experience the joy of the outdoors. Zhu Xiaogang added that with China’s growing national strength, more and more people are embracing winter sports. With the Winter Olympics bid, there is also increasing attention and enthusiasm for such activities. This year, Toread’s brand theme is “Transformation.” As a leading domestic outdoor brand, Toread will also contribute to realizing China’s Olympic dreams in 2015.
The whole family enjoys the fun
Green Field is the earliest and currently the largest outdoor activity platform in China. In 2014, approximately 1.25 million people signed up for outdoor activities through Green Field, an increase of 184% over the previous year. During the 2014–2015 winter season, the joint bid of Beijing and Zhangjiakou for the 2022 Winter Olympics further fueled citizens’ enthusiasm for participating in ice and snow activities. Green Field, in collaboration with the Beijing Sports Federation, organized multiple skiing activities targeting different groups including youth, adults, families, and professionals. Four events — the Green Field Youth Ski League & First Youth Winter Olympics Carnival, the New Year’s Eve Ski Glow Event, the Bird’s Nest Fun-for-All Ice and Snow Festival, and the Burn Party & Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Skiers Gathering — were included in the “2014 Happy Ice and Snow Season Series for Beijing Residents.” These events brought outdoor sports to the public in more professional and engaging ways.
