On February 10, the new brand IU under Plateno Hotels Group delivered an extraordinary WeChat launch event, introducing China’s first internet-based hotel brand. From 2:30 PM to 3:15 PM, the IU planning team disseminated brand information via the WeChat platform, Plateno’s official Weibo account, and the Plateno Club micro-community, directly reaching an audience of 100,000. Since then, almost everyone who uses WeChat knows that there is an internet hotel in Guangzhou called IU.
Why was the WeChat launch event so popular? Why did it have such a huge impact? Even after the fan groups were full, many Plateno Club members called to complain about the limited number of groups and expressed their desire to join. First, the WeChat launch event leverages modern social media, which is itself a new trend and naturally draws public attention. Second, prior to the event, self-media platforms, WeChat, and online influencers helped generate buzz and promote the event, quickly spreading the message to hundreds of thousands of people. Additionally, the content of the launch was tailored specifically for the target consumer group—the host used internet slang, making the presentation witty and entertaining. There were no speeches from leaders or guests—only the brand and product. As a result, the launch reached a wide audience and achieved a record of zero unfollows and zero blocks. Next, we will share the entire process of the launch event for your reference.

The star of the launch event was the IU Internet Hotel, so the theme needed to highlight both the IU brand and an internet-based mindset. The final theme chosen was “IU It, Connect Us.” Meanwhile, synchronized promotions on Weibo and the micro-community kept the momentum going, accompanied by the release of humorous comics to attract the first wave of attention.

After constant chatroom interactions and a non-stop stream of red envelopes, many guests in the group said they felt the one-and-a-half-hour launch ended too soon and left them wanting more. Everyone expressed great anticipation for the next WeChat launch event.
