The 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held in Tokyo, and Kawagoe City's Kasumigaseki Country Club will host its golf competitions.
To help both domestic and international visitors gain a deeper understanding of Kawagoe's cuisine, culture, and cityscape, and to fully experience its traditional charm that spans over four hundred years, we have officially launched a city promotional video including tourism information about Kawagoe, titled "Journey Through Space-Time ~JOURNEY THROUGH SPACE-TIME~."
Tracing back to the origins of Kawagoe’s Summer Million Lights Festival, it is said that after a certain lord of Kawagoe Castle passed away from illness in the olden days, the daughter of one of his retainers, out of gratitude for the lord’s benevolence, specially made lanterns on the first anniversary of his death (known as higan) and hung them outside the gate of the residence. As a result, people throughout the city began hanging lanterns in memory of Lord Saito, and it gradually developed into a unique festival. Currently, this large-scale citizen-participatory event has taken on new meaning and, along with the Little Edo Kawagoe Fireworks Festival, has become a highlight of summer in Kawagoe.
