Ye Xiaozhong Announces Appointment as Chief Content Officer of Youpu Travel
Ye Xiaozhong holds an Honours degree in Social Sciences from the National University of Singapore and a Master’s degree in Literary Studies from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He previously worked as a journalist for Lianhe Zaobao and later served as the publisher of Lonely Planet (China), overseeing the planning, creation, and research of Lonely Planet’s content in China. He pioneered the China Domestic Guide series and other original products under the Lonely Planet brand. Having traveled to over 80 countries, Ye makes a living through travel and has contributed travel and design columns and articles to numerous media outlets across Chinese-speaking regions. His published works include Bhutan: Land of Serenity, Design Shanghai, The Asian Style Era, Slow Travel: Bhutan, and Myanmar: A Journey Against the Grain.
From its inception, Youpu Travel has emphasized its focus on professionally generated content (PGC) as a way to distinguish itself from the user-generated content (UGC) model used by other online travel companies. PGC stands for Professional Generated Content, referring to expertly produced travel information. To this end, Youpu Travel has assembled and trained a team of qualified travel writers from the start to create high-quality destination guides and unique travel routes. Indeed, such ready-to-use guide content is the most valuable kind.
Since January, when former Lonely Planet China General Manager Li Xiaojian joined Youpu, the company has made clear its industry starting point for PGC content. Ye Xiaozhong’s addition undoubtedly enhances the competitiveness of Youpu’s PGC offerings. With his extensive travel experience and hands-on expertise in producing travel-related PGC content, Ye has further sharpened Youpu’s original positioning of creating PGC content — upgrading it into what users truly need. Such content is highly engaging, whether for reading or practical use.
Li Xiaojian and Ye Xiaozhong were long-time collaborators at Lonely Planet China, and their well-coordinated partnership joining Youpu suggests the company aims to become the mobile internet version of Lonely Planet. Together with Zhao Yang and Zhong Ming, who joined Youpu earlier, they form a strong team covering PGC content, business development, and technical operations. Under this leadership, Youpu Travel’s goal of “making independent travel simpler” becomes increasingly clear and exciting.
