The Xianning region has a long history. As early as the Neolithic Age, human ancestors thrived on this land, with ancient Neolithic sites discovered in areas such as Yangxin and Tongsan. During the Han and Tang dynasties, the region had relatively developed economy and culture. In 1965, it was separated from Xiaogan Prefecture to form Xianning Prefecture, with Wenquan Town as the seat of the Xianning Prefectural Administrative Office.
A provincial-level nature reserve. Located at the junction of Hunan, Hubei, and Jiangxi provinces, it is 40 kilometers from Tongcheng County and National Highway 106. The main peak, Zhijiao Tower, stands at an elevation of 1,528.3 meters, covering a total area of 55 square kilometers. Huanglong Mountain boasts lush vegetation, abundant species, and picturesque landscapes. The majesty of Zhijiao Tower, the beauty of Tianyue Pass, the serenity of Phoenix Wing, and the wonder of Lion and Elephant Gate form the four highlights of Huanglong Mountain. It is also a renowned sacred site for both Buddhism and Taoism in southern China. At elevations above 900 meters, there are eight mountainous two-star resort centers, making it a prime destination for eco-tourism and mountain retreats.
