We have also received tremendous support from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Zhejiang University. The Institute of Automation under the Chinese Academy of Sciences has set up a digital culture experimental base in Hengdian, while the International Design Institute of Zhejiang University has established a branch campus here. In the words of Xu Yi, director of the Institute of Automation, this is a perfect example of industry-academia-research collaboration. They research digital technology and cultural creativity, and we at Yuanming New Park put these research outcomes into practice and application. We aim to use the world’s latest technology, top-tier technology, and top-tier design.
Currently, visitors to other scenic spots in Hengdian can see the construction of a massive waterfall at Yuanming New Park—slightly smaller than Huangguoshu Waterfall. Especially noteworthy is a brand-new high-tech water show project built on the 500-acre Fuhai Lake, which has set a world record. You can imagine how spectacular it will be—definitely something to look forward to.

At the end of the interview, Mr. Xu Wenrong showed me a poem he had written himself, which included lines such as: “Bring benefits to the people, pay taxes to the government, bring honor to the province, and glory to the nation.” Xu Wenrong has emphasized on many occasions that he is just “a Chinese farmer,” but it is precisely such ambition that has continuously driven this Chinese farmer to reach new heights in his career and led the people around him toward prosperity. For him, now in his twilight years, any misunderstanding has long been cast aside, and there is no longer any need to chase after wealth. All his efforts are driven by the trust and expectations of his fellow villagers, and by the responsibility and conscience of being a social entrepreneur. Faced with past doubts, he said: “Doubt does not hinder our construction—in fact, it makes us do our work even better. I am a farmer, and farmers achieve success through hard work, not through argument. You argue all you want, I’ll do what I need to do.
