Food is an indispensable part of travel for many enthusiasts. Those visiting Osaka, Japan this April might encounter unique Hokkaido delicacies at Takashimaya Osaka Store.
According to Japanese media reports, from Wednesday, April 15 to Monday, April 27, 2015, the event area on the 7th floor of Takashimaya Osaka Store will host the “Hokkaido Exhibition.” Every visitor on-site will be able to enjoy authentic seafood rice bowls, Hokkaido ramen, as well as purchase Hokkaido-produced dairy products and specialty sweets. It’s a great opportunity to fully savor the flavors of Hokkaido—an unmissable treat for anyone craving its cuisine.
It’s reported that this classic seafood set is one of the signature dishes of “Shimajin” (Islander). The Shimajin canteen is located at Cape Sukoton, the northernmost tip of Rebun Island—a northern island abundant in seafood—operating only seven months a year starting from April. Its predecessor, [Sukoton Sales Stall], opened in the 1980s and specialized in offering carefully selected seafood to visitors from afar. The 2015 season has arrived once again, and the Shimajin canteen brings delicious seafood rice bowls and crucian carp sets for all travelers.
Among them, the “Taiyo Seafood Donburi Set” is highly recommended by visitors. Not only is it one of the canteen’s signature dishes, but it’s also available for immediate enjoyment at the exhibition. Priced at 2,376 yen, only 50 portions are sold daily—don’t miss out if you love authentic Japanese seafood.
This is also a dish that can be enjoyed on-site at the exhibition. The chicken soup ramen features two main highlights: its broth is simmered for 10 hours, rich in collagen and low in fat, while the noodles are 100% made from Hokkaido wheat, offering a firm texture.
It’s reported that this ramen is the signature dish of the popular ramen shop “Yamadaya Nananbei” located in a Sapporo residential area. This shop mainly serves smooth-textured, gently flavored chicken soup ramen, which has become a new specialty of Sapporo. Many tourists visit every year specifically for this ramen. At Takashimaya Osaka Store, it’s priced at 852 yen per bowl—come and give it a try.
This is one of the special items sold at the exhibition. It’s the signature product of Flanders Dessert Shop in Nakashibetsu. Known for its fruit-based sweets, this Hokkaido mango finger pastry combines mango with fresh cream containing 42% milk fat. The mango used is particularly unique—it’s grown in Teshikaga Town near Lake Mashu using carefully controlled hot spring warmth and is called the “Sunset of Lake Mashu.” It’s reported that in the farm, the mangoes are temperature-regulated year-round with groundwater during heat and hot spring warmth during cold, yielding two harvests annually through seasonal water adjustments.
The Hokkaido mango finger pastry is priced at 395 yen and is especially popular among girls and children. Don’t miss your chance to try it, as only 50 portions are sold daily.
When talking about the Hokkaido Exhibition at Takashimaya Osaka Store, one must mention these specialty products for sale—these Hokkaido chocolate treats are sure to be a favorite among many ladies too. Provided by Royce' Confect chocolate factory, besides the famous raw chocolate, chocolate-coated potato chips are also Royce's original creation. With pure taste and lingering flavor, they’re extremely popular. The Hokkaido chocolate potato chips (per box) are priced at 756 yen, and the Hokkaido raw chocolate (strawberry) (per box) are also 756 yen, with only 50 portions available daily. Hope every food lover doesn’t miss out.
